American actress Cathy Silvers had to be rescued from a mountain top by helicopter this week after she broke two bones in her leg whilst hiking with a new partner.
Cathy, who was just 19 when she landed her role in the hit US sitcom Happy Days, was reportedly on her second date with a new love interest when she suffered the agonising injury as the pair hiked through canyons in Santa Clarita in Southern California.
The 58-year-old spoke to US showbiz outlet TMZ about the “unbearable” ordeal and revealed that she heard a loud crack which left her unable to walk.
Cathy’s new beau – who has not been named – then had to carry her down the mountainside for an hour, as she was in shock, before calling the emergency services for help.
According to the outlet, it then took search and rescue a further two hours to locate Cathy, with a helicopter having to be dispatched to locate the actress and rush her to hopsital for treatment due to their high altitude.
Once she reached the hospital, doctors discovered Cathy had broken two bones in the incident and placed her leg in a plaster cast.
Fans will remember Cathy as boy-mad teenager Jenny Piccalo on Happy Days who was the best friend of Joanie Cunningham and dated Henry Winkler’s character Fonzie. She joined the cast in season eight, despite her character being mentioned in earlier episodes.
She also starred alongside her real-life father, comedian and actor Phil Silvers, in one episode, as he took on the role of Jenny’s father Roscoe Piccalo.
