Elton John has penned a heartfelt goodbye to Australia as he prepares to jet off for the next leg of his tour with his doting husband and kids by his side.

The talented singer has been in the country since November, performing right across Australia and even taking to the stage while battling with his health. Now, after performing his final show in Sydney on Saturday night, the star has bid farewell to the great country, admitting it’s “stolen our family’s heart”.

Taking to social media, Elton said they are grateful to have been welcomed so warmly into the country, and sad to say goodbye.

“We want to say a huge thank you to EVERYONE who has welcomed our family so warmly,” he wrote on the Instagram post. “From the waves at Bondi Beach to the breathtaking beauty of the Great Barrier Reef, our sons have learned so much about this beautiful country.

“It’s been the trip of a lifetime and an experience we will treasure and never forget.”

Elton also shared a series of photos of his kids Elijah and Zachary, along with his husband David Furnish experiencing all the things Australia has to offer. His sons could be seen getting up close to koalas and kangaroos, while in other snaps they take in the sites of Sydney.

Fans were quick to comment on the post, with many sharing their love for the star.

“Beautiful words for a beautiful soul,” @weirbernie wrote on the Instagram post. While @denise.b.lopes said: “Your children grow up so fast!” And @still_beth_ added: “So glad you all had fun!”

Despite the fun times enjoyed in Australia, Elton has experienced a bit of a rocky road while in the Land Down Under, from wild weather to a struggle with his health.

The 72-year-old was left with no choice but to cut his show short after wild Aussie weather lashed Victoria’s Yarra Valley, where Elton was performing at Rochford Wines’ ‘A Day on the Green’ event earlier this year.

According to a post on the event organiser’s page, rain and hail began to fall around an hour and a half into Elton’s performance and damaged the equipment on stage, meaning the show had to be called off. The storm cam after da day of blistering heat, as temperatures reached over 40 degrees in the Yarra Valley.

“Unfortunately due to tonight’s short but heavy downpour that occurred 95 minutes into Elton John’s set resulting in damage to musical instruments and monitors on stage, the show could not continue,” the post read. “We too are upset about the impact of the weather on tonight’s show.”
