Deborah Hutton has never married or had children, something she says she doesn’t regret. The former model and television star, who’s set to celebrate her 60th birthday later this year, opened up about the deeply personal matter in a recent tell-all chat with Woman’s Day, declaring, “I’m glad I don’t have children, to be honest with you”.

The 59-year-old went on to tell the lifestyle magazine she couldn’t imagine bringing up a child in today’s world, adding that she’s very lucky to be blessed with two nephews instead.

“To bring up a child in the world today would be so insanely challenging and I don’t know how parents do it,” Deborah revealed. “And I have my nephews for that – they’re my biggest sense of family”.

Sadly, the media personality, who’s hosted a string of popular shows like Celebrity Overhaul over the years, lost both her brothers, Rod and David, within a year of each other in 2007. Rod was 47 when he died from a sudden epileptic fit, while David passed away from liver cancer at the young age of 50.

“That was a very dark, dark time,” she told Women’s Day. “And I don’t think you overcome these things, but David left behind the two most beautiful nephews and I see my brothers in them. So they’re still around in some sense, but it’s hard on Mum. I’m the last one standing”.

The former model has had her own scary brush with cancer, with doctors finding a basal cell carcinoma on her face in 2011. The skin cancer returned to the same spot on her face last year, however she appears to be in the clear now. Deborah took to social media at the time to share the frightening news with followers, posting a shocking photo of her stitches which ran from her nose to her mouth. In the Instagram post, the 59-year-old said she felt “extremely grateful” that all the cancer had now been removed.

Meanwhile, in the same chat with Woman’s Day, Deborah also spoke of the pressures of constantly being in the public eye, saying she can’t wait for the day she can get “fat”. The former model, who’s graced the covers of beauty magazines like Cosmopolitan, revealed she’s always struggled with body image.

“Look, I knew I wasn’t going to do it [model] for too long, I was always too short and probably just a bit too chubby for everybody,” she said. “And I wish I could say I was over that – and I’m still more comfortable in my skin that I used to be – but I still think, ‘Oh crap, I need to lose a couple of kilos’. I’d like to get to that day where you think, ‘OK, I’m fat and happy'”.
