Following the death of Hollywood icon, Betty White, 99, on Friday, December 31, 2021, fans have been flooding the internet with posts expressing their adoration for the beloved actress.

Among these posts was a tweet that resurfaced a true TV treasure from nearly four decades ago. Back in 1983, actress and comedian, Joan Rivers filled in for Johnny Carson as a guest host for The Tonight Show where she had Betty White on as a guest.

As soon as the interview started, White did not hesitate to start poking fun at a then-recent magazine cover Rivers was featured in.

“You would think you were the only cover girl in town. Did you know that I’m a cover girl?”

Before Rivers has the chance to respond, white whipped out a magazine cover from beside her, which showed herself on the cover next to a big dog.

“And if you dare say, ‘Who’s that other b—h on the cover?’ I will never speak to you again for as long as I live,” White said in the video before later clarifying, “I am the one in the pink jacket.”

Rivers embraced her inner Fashion Police and proceeded to make a sharp comment about Whites monochromatic ensemble that she had chosen to wear that night.

“I asked you to come on tonight and look glamorous and look what you showed up in,” she told the actor.

To which White responded “ I like to think understated is a lot classier than all this other stuff hanging out all over, well it’s just ridiculous. The little tassels on everything… can you get them all going in opposite directions?”

The banner between the two comedians immediate gained approval from social media users.

“You don’t get banter like this on many talk shows anymore,” the original poster wrote.

“Joan and Betty just effortlessly throwing shade at each other is so wonderful,” another person commented.

And while the clip only shows two minutes of the conversation, the actual interview went goes on for 10 minutes of pure delight.

The two late comedians, Rivers passed away on September 2014, age 81, were hilariously playful the entire conversation. Each cracking joke after joke to keep things entertaining.

But that’s not the only video of White going viral on social media. There’s also another clip of White’s roasting her The Proposal co-star, Sandra Bullock, that’s been making the rounds over the weekend.

Other celebrities like Grammy Award winner, Steve Martin, and The Proposal co-star, Ryan Raynolds, have also remembered the legendary actress on social media with their own unique tributes.
