John Farnham’s wife Jill has provided the country with an update on the singer’s road to recovery, following a marathon surgery to remove a tumor from his mouth.

The 73-year-old singing legend remains in intensive care (ICU) but is “in a stable condition” and showing positive signs of recovery.

“John remains in a stable condition in ICU following the removal of a cancerous tumor in his mouth on Tuesday,” Jill said

“He is awake and responding well to the care he’s receiving.”

Family friend of the Farnhams and widow of the late Glenn Wheatley, Gaynor Wheatley, has said she believes Farnham will perform again, saying her husband would have inspired him to get back on stage.

‘If Glenn was here, he would have a date at the MCG penciled in,’ Wheatley told The Herald Sun.

Wheatley revealed on the Today show that the country had Jill to thank for saving Farnham’s life, saying the singer’s cancer was discovered a couple of weeks ago when Jill forced the star to see a doctor.

“I think John suffers from that man thing that says ‘I’m fine’ and was lucky and we have Jill to thank to take him to the doctor and found this lesion in his mouth which has now been taken out and addressed,” Wheatley said.

Jill’s update on her beloved husband comes as major Australian media outlets have teamed up to create a website allowing fans to send well-wishes to the singer and his family.

The website, We Love You, John, will compile all the messages of support, creating a database for Farnham and his family to read “when the time is right for them”.

The You’re the Voice singer has received a constant outpouring of support from the nation since news of his cancer diagnosis rocked the country on August 23.

Farnham’s family said they’re “blown away” by the amount of love and support received.

“We are genuinely overwhelmed by the incredible wave of support, love and messages we have received today from so many people around Australia,” a statement from the family read.

“This means so much to us as a family. Thank you to everyone for this. John will be blown away.”
