Grey power! Actress Allison Janney debuts stunning new look

Dame Helen Mirren has been rocking short, grey hair for years now, and her more natural approach to hair colour has clearly rubbed off on American actress Allison Janney, who’s swapped her longer, darker locks in favour of a gorgeous, grey pixie style – and fans are loving it (including reporters at Starts at 60!).

During a recent episode of People TV’s One Last Thing, the 61-year-old told host Jeremy Parsons that she decided to “do a Helen Mirren thing” and chop off her locks and go grey after her natural hair colour started showing when she couldn’t get to the hairdressers.

“It started out with just Covid choices, you know,” the Mom star said on the show, People magazine reports. “I was in Ohio for five months of the pandemic. My natural colour started growing in, which is grey. And then I thought, you know, I’ve always wanted to cut it off and do a Helen Mirren thing. I just wanted to try.”

And it seems like the usually-brunette actress is having no problems easing into her new style. Earlier this month, Janney debuted her brand new look by sharing a picture of herself sporting the new ‘do, and the reaction from fans was huge! Her grey hair really stands out in the picture (below) against her white knit and pants.

“You look stunning and I love the hair colour,” one fan wrote. “I’ve been mulling over whether to stop dying mine blonde or not.” Another praised the actress “for normalising grey hair on a woman”. And a third simply wrote, “You are rocking that hair!”

Janney isn’t the first celebrity to embrace her natural roots. Other Hollywood stars have also recently changed their hues, including Jane Fonda and Emma Thompson. Fonda made the transition to grey last year, and showed it off at a special screening of hit Netflix series Grace and Frankie, which she stars in alongside Lily Tomlin. While Thompson traded in her honey-blonde hair for arctic white in 2018 and has been rocking it ever since.
