Slow cookers have long been the champions of the kitchen, taking the stress out of meal times by allowing you to simply throw all of the ingredients into a pot and walk away. But if you haven’t yet invested in a crock pot, or are in need of an upgrade, you can now get your hands on an award-winning appliance for just $24.

Big W is now stocking the Contempo 5.5L which was voted the best overall slow cooker by Canstar Blue in 2019. It even beat out slow cookers from the likes of Sunbeam, Kmart, Philips and Breville to achieve the highest overall satisfaction rating.

You can get your hands on the appliance, both online and in store, from Thursday, just in time to cook up some hearty dishes for the family as the cool winter nights roll in.

While slow cookers have long been the saviour of busy mums and keen home cooks, they have enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in recent months with fan groups even popping up on social media where people share tips and recipes with one another.

One such recipe that sent the internet into a frenzy was this nostalgic golden syrup dessert dish. The recipe went viral earlier this month after being shared in the popular Facebook group ‘Slow Cooker Recipe & Tips’, as people shared their personal memories of the nostalgic sweet treat. One commenter wrote: “I haven’t these since I was in my teens. I would go to my boyfriend’s house and his mum would make them”.

While another wrote: “I made these last week for the first time in years. So simple and yummy with cream or ice cream. I need to get back to work so I don’t have time to do these again or my uniform won’t fit me”. Another commenter described them as “childhood faves” while someone else said they will always remember how their grandma made them.

Another recipe for making bread in the slow cooker also became an instant hit after it was shared on Facebook. It was shared thousands of times as many people across the country struggled to get their hands on fresh baked goods such as bread, or pantry staples such as flour, amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. You can find the recipe here.
