If you’re sick and tired of never being able to get your glasses completely clean an optometrist’s trick for spotless spectacles might be just what you need.

Taking to her TikTok account, Jeski, who has 18 year optometry experience, shared the little known hack for ensuring your glasses looks as clean as the day you bought them.

“You know when you pick up your glasses for the first time from the optometrist and they’re so incredible clean and you can never quite get them that clean again,” she began.

“I’m going to teach you how to get them that clean.”

The secret lies in ensuring you “emulsify the oil buildup” which can be achieved with a little help from your lens cleaner and by simply rubbing the lens with your fingers

Jeski demonstrated the technique, spraying one lens of a pair of glasses with lens cleaner and then rubbing the lens up, down and around with her fingers until the liquid emulsified.

To demonstrate the difference her hack makes, she sprayed the other lens without rubbing it in with her fingers. She then cleaned the lens that was rubbed with her fingers with a wipe to reveal the crystal clear results.

“This is after one wipe, look spotless,” she explained.

While the first lens ended up spotless, the second required several attempts of wiping to achieve a sub par outcome with the lens appearing to require further cleaning.

The little-known trick was a hit among fellow glasses wearers, with many eager to try the hack for themselves.

“As someone that got their first pair of glasses like a month ago, this is fantastic,” one wrote.

“I have 20 pairs of glasses and a mission for tomorrow night now.”

“This could be life changing,” commented another.

“Oh my god thank you for this video!! I am constantly annoyed that my glasses don’t get as clean as I want them.”

While keeping your glasses clean is important, choosing the right pair for your face shape is equally crucial. Sometimes a pair will instinctively feel right, other times something will seem off – even if you can’t quite put your finger on what it is.

But with a little understanding of why a certain style could work and what to avoid, shopping for your next pair can become significantly easier. The following pointers will help you narrow down your options next time you’re looking for a new pair.

Glasses for round faces

If you have plump cheeks, a rounded chin and a wide forehead, square and rectangular frame shapes are your best match. Angular frames can give balance and bring structure to your soft features. On the other hand, it usually pays to stay clear of rounded or small styles. (It’s important to note that most people find that their face is never just one type – the key is determining which category sounds most like you.)

Glasses for oval faces

If you’re lucky enough to have an evenly-proportioned oval face, practically any frame can potentially suit you, so don’t limit your options! This puts you in a great position to be adventurous and try some more modern and angular styles. For the best look, choose square or rectangular frame shapes and try to avoid frames or shapes that are oversized.

Glasses for square faces

Square faces feature a strong jaw, wide brows and well-defined cheekbones. If you have a square jawline, angular glasses can sometimes make it appear harsh. Instead pick frames that add slightly curved edges, such as round glasses or oval-shaped frames. If you see your face as short, consider a narrower pair with more width than depth, as this can lengthen the appearance of your face.

Glasses for angular faces

If your face is long and thin in appearance, either triangular or rectangular shallow frames may make it appear longer, which isn’t always ideal. Instead, consider a stronger brow line or frames that are wider at the bottom. This will give your face a wider look and give your features a lovely proportionate feel. We’d also recommend choosing glasses with round or curved shapes to give those strong facial lines a slightly softer appearance.

Glasses for diamond faces

If you have a diamond face shape, then you’ll have a narrow forehead and chin with wide cheekbones. Shapes that work best are oval and rectangular frames and, for women, cat-eye shapes can also be a good choice. It’s also worth experimenting with top-heavy frames such as semi-rimless styles. On the other hand, it’s best to avoid buying glasses that may be too narrow or small.
