Your pantry is host to an incredible range of groceries that have hidden cleaning powers!

Using harsh chemical cleaning products can be damaging to the environment, to the furniture you are using them on, and to your health. By using these pantry staple items, you can clean the house the healthy way.

All you need to have in stock is:

  1. Walnuts
  2. Rice
  3. Teabags
  4. Salt
  5. Lemon juice
  6. Bicarbonate soda
  7. White bread
  8. Eucalyptus oil
  9. Cornstarch
  10. Coffee

Some basic ways you can use these ingredients for around the home cleaning include:

  • Use walnuts to remove leather furniture scratches. Break walnut in half and rub over the scratched area. Come back in an hour and the scratch will be near-gone!
  • Use the left over rice from cooking as a great laundry starch. Either add it to your laundry cycle or use as a spray onto clothes when ironing.
  • Keep old teabags and use them as wooden furniture cleaner. Dip a cloth into water soaked with the left over teabags and gently wipe over wooden furniture for a nice shine.
  • Use salt to get rid of stains on pots and pans and coffee mugs. Dampen the object with warm water and generously douse in table salt and scrub for a clean finish.
  • Use a runny paste made of lemon juice and bicarbonate soda to create a great general cleanser for surfaces and dishes.
  • Use olive oil as a furniture polish by dabbing some onto a cloth and wiping in small circular motions.
  • Empty coffee grinds down your kitchen sink followed by boiling water to get rid of bad smells.
  • Pour equal quantities of rice and water into a glass vase, cover with your hand and shake vigorously to give your vases a beautiful shine.
  • To keep your oil paintings dust free without ruining them, take a piece of plain, white bread and dab over the painting to get rid of dust safely.
  • To get rid of grease spills on carpet, dab some cornstarch over the stained area and leave it for 20 minutes before vacuuming off.
  • Spray eucalyptus oil onto surfaces and wipe down to use it as a powerful natural disinfectant.
