Cricket legend Shane Warne has revealed his deep love for ex Liz Hurley, admitting the days he spent dating her were the “happiest in his life”.

The pair enjoyed a very high profile romance from 2010 until 2013 and were often pictured out at red carpet events and parties, putting on loved up displays together.

Now, opening up on his former engagement to the 53-year-old actress and model, Warne, 49, told the Mirror he struggled with how close she was to her ex Hugh Grant throughout their relationship – while her commitments to TV show The Royals also put strain on their romance.

“I was more in love with Elizabeth than I’d realised I could be,” he told the news outlet. “I miss the love we had. My years with Elizabeth were the happiest of my life.”

Warne has been known as a bit of a womaniser for years, having enjoyed several high profile romances. However, he added: “I wanted to be better with her.”

The couple got together after Hurley previously dated actor Hugh Grant for eight years. They split in 2000 but have remained firm friends ever since.

Addressing the friendship, Warne admitted in the interview that he found it hard to deal with sometimes – especially when they were living on opposite sides of the world.

“The more you’re apart, the more you ask questions. I got jumpy about the time Elizabeth spent with Hugh Grant, for example,” he added.

Elsewhere in the tell-all chat, Warne admitted he has always regretted cheating on his first wife Simone Callahan, who is the mother of his three children. The pair were married from 1995 to 2005, before reconciling briefly in 2010.

Meanwhile, Warne recently insisted in another interview that he has remained on good terms with Hurley following their split, and they even enjoy the odd meal together now.

Speaking to The Times, he said: “We still catch up for dinners, still chat on the phone… We’re still friends.”

He admitted he’s now on dating app Tinder and happily single, adding: “I like women… I like sex.”
