Easy chocolate-coated honeycomb

These are the absolute best for entertaining!

If you’re a fan of Crunchies or Violet Crumbles you’ll love biting into this homemade chocolate-coated honeycomb! It’s a great treat to whip up around Christmas time and also makes a lovely gift if you prefer to give something homemade to friends and family. Best of all, this recipe uses only five ingredients and is super simple to make, so you don’t have to worry about spending hours in the kitchen or working over a hot stove for too long in the summer heat.

Depending on your taste buds, you can choose between milk or dark chocolate to coat the honeycomb pieces. Pop them in a big bowl, take them to Christmas lunch and watch them disappear in minutes!

Ingredients

  • 200g caster sugar
  • 350g golden syrup
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 450g plain chocolate

Method

  1. Grease a 20x30cm baking dish. Add sugar, golden syrup and vinegar to a medium saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring, until sugar dissolves. Heat without stirring until a small amount of syrup dropped into cold water forms hard, brittle threads. Remove from heat and stir in bicarb soda. Carefully pour into prepared pan; do not spread. Allow to cool completely.
  2. Melt chocolate in microwave, stirring frequently until smooth. Break cooled honeycomb into bite sized cubes and coat completely into melted chocolate. Leave to set on greaseproof paper. Store tightly covered.
