‘I remain as horny as ever’ and other tips for a great marriage

A video has hit the internet that’s overturning stereotypes about older couples left, right, and centre, and providing some good life lessons as well.

Danni Munro posted a video of her grandparents, John and Evie Kasper, on her YouTube channel that she’d filmed five years ago for their 70th wedding anniversary. It subsequently got picked up by online media outlets at the weekend, including Buzzfeed’s Reasons to Smile, where it’s been viewed more than 44 million times.

It’s not hard to see why. The 95-year-old couple from Minnesota in the US, who’ve now clocked up 75 years of marriage, are funny and very down to earth about what makes a good marriage.

“He’s always after my body, I’m 89 years old and it’s ‘you turn me on’,” Evie jokingly complains on the video, while John quips, “She’s so stingy with her body!”, adding that he “remains as horny as ever”.

The couple met at school when they were 10, when John sat behind Evie in the classroom. But John says they took their courtship slowly.

“I’d known her five years before I started to feel her up,” he cheekily reveals. Evie’s having none of that, though.  “A little correction to that – it look longer than five years!” she says on the video.

More seriously, they say that the secret to their long and happy marriage is that they never hold a drudge or go to bed mad with each other. Instead, they sit down and talk it out.

And they always hold hands, though Evie admits that that’s now as much about ensuring they stay upright as it is about remaining close.

But they do have some sore points they just can’t get over – one of which is the amount John spends on getting haircuts.

“She doesn’t know that the trend for men now days is the clip it close,” he protests. “I like to be trendy.”

LADBible also posted the video on its Facebook page, where it’s been viewed 28 million times and prompted followers to post photos of their own grandparents who still have happy marriages. And the Kaspers’ granddaughter Danni says the couple are enjoying the attention they’ve received, although they’re not clear what ‘going viral’ means.

“They just know it’s something we do on ‘our machines,’ which is our phones,” she says.

She’s since posted an update with the couple for their 75th anniversary, in which John flexes his muscles while Evie drinks a beer, and they dish out some more home truths.

What do you think about the Kaspers’ advice?
