Here’s what you should never use to clean your computer monitor

Window cleaner is great for cleaning lots of things besides windows. Car windscreens for starters, photo frames and obviously anything else made of glass. 

And while it is good at cleaning a lot of things it’s a really bad option for your computer screen.

The cleaning agent, such as ammonium hydroxide, may in fact strip away any anti-glare coating your monitor has, and can also cause clouding. The same applies for any alcohol based cleaners.

Also rethink using paper towel or newspaper to wipe up the cleaner. These too can scratch the screen. You might not notice at first but the more you rub, the more you scratch, the more you’ll notice down the track.

So what are your options?

A microfiber cloth is a good choice. Use them dry to wipe over the screen. If you come across any stubborn spots of dust wet the cloth with distilled water and gently rub. 

The best way, however, is to use compressed air. Photographer use this to clean the inside of their cameras but it also works for computer monitors. Blast off any loose dust particles and then follow up with a quick wipe of your microfiber cloth.

This is also the best way to clean your TV screen too, not to mention the various electronic devices you have with a touch screen that gets lots of action.
