The table shook, and the Mona Lisa painting at the end of the table started talking.

She regaled us with stories of her artist friends, from Van Gough to Banksy.

Then our square art canvas table mat suddenly lit up with swirling patterns, and she demanded we use a special torch on the table to find the code on our mat to unlock the box beside us to get our hors d’oeuvres. Eventually we worked out the 4 digit code together and opened it to find a Michaelangelo inspired, delicious charcoal cheese tart in a white porcelain hand.

This was one of many fun art-oriented activities that consumed our attention over 7 delicious courses at the new dining concept launched last week in Privé Restaurant at Sofitel Brisbane.

The private lobby restaurant has tables of four or six, all set up on our entry, with arty projections and utensils.

Mona instructed us to spray an aerosol can to magically reveal a modern beef fillet masterpiece by Banksy. How the “Girl with Balloon” appeared, we never worked out.

We ate a course dressed with edible paper women – Picasso style, and mixed ourselves a personal negroni served in a skull head.

The Picasso snapper was perfectly cooked and juicy, and we had a black garlic beurre blanc sauce with special pouring instructions to recreate our own “Weeping Woman.”

A rubber mat was laid out and pallet jars of “edible paint” allowed us to create our own Jackson Pollock-style artwork and then smear it and gobble it down with a selection of crudites.

The tender and delicious Angus eye fillet steak course was revealed from a Warhol Campbells Soup can, and our indulgent Dali dessert, came with specific instructions to assemble the masterpiece, before enjoying its delicious textures and flavours.

Accompanied by a drinks package service with sparkling and wines, the atmosphere was as vibrant and eclectic as the seven-course meal itself.
Swift service, a luxe and private environment, and a room filled with wonder, laughter, superb cuisine and fine wines. 7 Paintings delivers a fun filled, modern-day interactive evening, with an art history lesson on the side.

Sometimes conversation just flows, with old friends, partners of decades, family, or on new dates. For times when it doesn’t – let the Mona Lisa do the entertaining for you at your table.
