Finder names the best Aussie mattress under $1,000

Identifying the best mattresses currently available in Australia wasn’t as much fun as it sounds. There were no sleep tests by the folks at comparison site finder.com.au and certainly no jumping on the beds. Instead, Finder’s independent researchers combed through thousands of entries on popular review site productreview.com.au to compare feedback on more than 16 mattress brands, including King Koil, Sealy, Slumberland and Tempur.

The researchers looked at whether the reviews were paid for or not, as well as the key features and prices of the leading contenders to find the winners of 10 categories, including the all-important ‘best mattress under $1,000’. You can find the winners in all of the categories at finder.com.au but if you’re on the hunt for a great mattress at a reasonable price, look no further than the Eva Mattress.

Best mattress under $1,000

Priced from just $900 for a queen-sized mattress, the Eva Mattress averaged a 4.8 out of 5 stars across more than 2,000 reviews on the Eva site itself and 4.5 stars from more than 700 reviews on the independent productreview.com.au, with reviewers praising it for curing their sore backs. “Great mattress, keeps its shape [and] definitely helps my ageing back,” reviewer James P said, while Dennis P said that “at the price you expect to get something average but the product is great”.

Starts at 60 founder and CEO Rebecca Wilson is also a big fan of the Eva Mattress – you can read why here! Finder, meanwhile, praised the Eva Mattress for its gel memory foam that helps keep sleepers cool in summer and for having a 120-night trial period, during which the mattress can be returned for a full refund. In fact, Eva won’t just give you a refund – it also donates your unwanted mattress to charity so it can be repurposed for someone who needs it.

The Eva Mattress also comes with a 12-year warranty – the type of safety net you’d expect with a high-end, pricey mattress. But although it’s made with pocket-springs to ensure two people can share the bed comfortably without disturbing each other, plus three loads of foam for cushioning and support, a double Eva Mattress costs just $800 and a king-sized mattress $1,000.

Need good reasons to buy an Eva Mattress?

If the fact that the Eva Mattress has been recommended by Choice (as the recommended mattress of 2020) and Finder and offers the peace of mind of a 120-night trial plus a 12-year guarantee isn’t enough to convince you to give one a try, there are other good reasons to buy from Eva.

For one, it’s not just Choice and Finder who say the Eva Mattress is great. Slumbersearch.com’s users give the mattress an overall satisfaction score of 9.6 out of 10, including 9.5 for back pain relief and 9.7 for value. Slumbersearch says the surprisingly low cost of an Eva Mattress, despite it being a hybrid of microcoils, pocket-springs and gel memory foam (all high-quality materials), is one of the reasons everyone’s shouting Eva’s praises.

Why is an Eva Mattress such a reasonable price? Because Eva cut out the middlemen – there’s no physical store and Eva owns its whole manufacturing process so got rid of unnecessary overheads – allowing it to make quality mattresses more affordable.

Plus, Eva’s an Australian-owned, Melbourne-based company so if you’ve got any questions or issues, you can contact the Eva team by email or phone and quickly hear back from a local. Your mattress can be delivered to your door just a day after you order – and returns, in the unlikely event you ever want to get rid of your Eva Mattress – are just as easy. It may be the first mattress you’ve ever bought that comes in a box but as Rebecca found (you can read her story via the link above), it’s really easy to set up.

An Eva Mattress can be used with almost any base, including a solid platform, a slatted base, bunk board or box springs, and as long as your base is within 3cm of the dimensions of the Eva Mattress (which are Australian standard), it’ll fit just fine. Or you can purchase the Eva Timber Bed Base, a Good Design Award Winner, from just $850.

Finally, if you sign up to receive emails from Eva, you can get $100 off the cost of your mattress. There really is no reason not to give it a go!
