We all love an early morning romp when we can get one, but who knew it actually has real health benefits? Studies have shown that morning sex can increase your mood and make you look fresher and younger. Here’s 6 reasons why you should consider getting under the sheets after dawn more often:

  1. Regular sex makes you look younger and feel better: Research by the Royal Edinburgh Hospital showed that those who had a steady sex life were viewed as seven to twelve years younger.
  2. Fight off stress and depression: It’s a no-brainer that making love with your partner can make you feel loved, did you know it can raise your mood and stave off depressive cycles? Researchers at the University of Cincinnati examined stress levels in participants who had just had sex. Reduced stress levels were found and continued for seven days afterwards, a case for sex’s long-term benefits. Also, sexual arousal and orgasms release “feel good” hormones that can’t help but make you smile!
  3. It’s great for your heart health: An early morning rendezvous not only sets you up for a day of bliss, but it can amazingly reduce your risk of stroke and a heart attack. If you’re high blood pressure is causing you grief, your partner might just be the medicine you need. It also keeps oestrogen and testosterone levels in balance, lowering heart disease.
  4. You can get fit from morning sex! Some of us find it difficult to get out and about, or more often than not we “forget” to do our afternoon workout in the place of…well, anything else! There’s some good news, getting your workout out of the way in the morning by way of the bedroom could help you to lose weight. Sex burns five calories per minute, so why not have combined/conjoined exercise?
  5. Start your day with love: We all love to be loved so having the physical is important to maintaining that powerful connection with your partner. Send your partner to coffee with their friends feeling like they’re on Cloud 9.
  6. Fewer health issues: Immunoglobulin comes out in droves when you’re sexually stimulated, boosting your immune system and fighting nasty bacteria. You can also ease chronic pain like backaches and even arthritis. Ladies, your pelvic floor muscles get a workout too, improving bladder control. Fellas, ejaculating more than 21 times a month makes you less likely to get prostate cancer, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association.

It’s probably true that no one really needs to be told to have sex, but some are missing out on these great benefits, whether it’s out of nonchalance or for other reasons (medical or otherwise). So go on, wake up a little earlier than usually and surprise your partner! When any excuse’ll do, why not use this one?
