There is never a dull moment on The Chase, whether it’s the witty banter between the Chasers and contestants, or host Bradley Walsh bursting into fits of laughter at a cheeky innuendo, but one contestant left viewers stunned this week as she took a stab in the dark at a geography question.

Teacher Hannah Clementson, 26, appeared alongside her nearest and dearest on ITV’s The Family Chase earlier this week, which sees four members of the same family team up to take on the Chaser, instead of a group of complete strangers.

Hannah, from Newcastle, was third up to the podium to take on Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha, following her mother Marion and sister who were both caught, reports The Mirror. However, having made it through to the final chase alone, as dad Ian was also knocked out of the competition before the final round, it was a question about the home nation of Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell that left her stumped.

“Sprinter Asafa Powell comes from what Caribbean country?” Bradley Walsh asked, to which Hannah replied: “Africa.”

It was seemingly evident from the look on Hannah’s face that she had simply taken a wild guess at the answer, however viewers of the popular quiz show couldn’t believe what they had just heard and many took to social media to share their thoughts.

One person wrote: “DID SHE JUST CALLED AFRICA A CARIBBEAN COUNTRY. WHAT IN THE WORLD AM I WATCHING.” Another commented: “Question on the chase: which Caribbean country is a athlete from? She said Africa!!!!!!!!! I had to scream.”

While another viewer said: “Did… she just say… Africa after being asked “which Caribbean country”?!?!!! I can’t believe this.”

Just last week, viewers were left in hysterics after Chaser Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty made some rather rude comments to a contestant, during one of the first episodes of new show Beat the Chasers. The spin-off show – which also stars Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett, Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha, Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Wallace and Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan – sees the celebrity quizzers team up to take on four individual contestants.

Anne made the X-rated comments as host Walsh introduced contestant Joel, who plays American Football. The Governess quizzed Joel on his sporting prowess, asking the student what position he plays, to which he answered that he was a “wide receiver”. Never one to miss an opportunity to inject some humour, Anne then quipped that she herself has “been described as a wide receiver”.

Bradley gasped in shock, along with the contestant, as the live studio audience erupted into laughter. But Anne didn’t stop there, as she added: “And previously I’ve been called a tight end.”

Viewers of the show were left in hysterics over Anne’s comments, with many taking to Twitter to commend the TV star on her sense of humour. One person wrote: “Absolutely fabulous I was nearly a burden to the NHS at the wide receiver / tight end quip I choked on my Revel.” Another commented: “@anne_hegerty saying she used to be a wide receiver is my highlight of lockdown tv so far. Love her.” Another said: “Anne, you stole the show tonight. I’m still laughing at your ‘wide receiver’ comment. I love this show already. Bradley is in top form too.”
