The stars of Sunrise have swapped their early morning TV slot for a very cheeky appearance on the celebrity special of The Chase, with both Kochie and his co-star Edwina Bartholomew left in stitches – along with the crowd – following a series of innuendos and unfortunate slip-ups.

Appearing alongside co-stars Samantha Armytage and Mark Beretta, the four TV stars take on Chaser Issa ‘Supernerd’ Schultz in the special episode to raise money for their chosen charities. And each of them face some tough and often hilarious questions along the way.

While Samantha is first to take on the challenge, it’s David ‘Kochie’ Koch’s showdown with Issa that leaves the crowd in fits of laughter. Host Andrew O’Keefe begins the round by congratulating the star on being married to his wife Libby for 40 years – and it sparks a theme throughout the round from then on.

As he’s faced with the question: “In the NT parliament, what seat has been held by Michael Gunner and Marshall Perron?” The three available answers include, “Arm River, Elbow Creek and Fannie Bay”. He never stood a chance!

Andrew asks him: “Are you an arm man, an elbow man, or a…” to which the crowd erupts in laughter and Andrew adds: “Or a Bay man?” Pausing only for a moment, Kochie replies: “After 40 years… I’m a Bay man!”

Congratulating him on his performance throughout, Andrew later adds insult to injury as he says: “Thanks to Kochie, with a little help from his fanny!”

Following him to give it her best shot is Edwina, who is asked: “What was the original name of underwater hockey?” with the answers including, “Octopush, Jellyfit and Lobsteer”.

At this point, Issa takes the opportunity to share an anecdote from his own experience playing the bizarre sport, relaying to both Edwina and her co-stars: “You sort of swim along the bottom of the pool and you just nudge it with your little tool… little thing…” as the crowd breaks into more laughter, he quickly says: “Sorry, little device,” before burying his head in his hands.

Clearly shocked by the accidental slip of the tongue, Andrew walks off shaking his head as Kochie shouts from the back: “Does everyone have the same sized stick?” To which Eddy adds: “Are you wearing swimming costumes or what’s happening here?”

Deciding silence is the best policy, Issa finally concludes the exchange by saying: “I know my sport!” before pulling a sarcastic face at the crowd.

Elsewhere, Issa takes the opportunity on the show to share a snippet of his dating life, joking during one discussion that he once tried to join dating app Bumble – but was sadly unsuccessful.

“I tried it! But no one matched to be quite honest,” he recalls. “I said, ‘Hey guys, hey!’” Clearly mystified by his greeting message, Andrew jokes: “Well that was the problem!” to which Issa admits: “I just realised what my problem was! It’s just occurred to me!”

And Samantha didn’t get off scot-free in the first round as she’s asked which Chaser she’d most like to face off against – telling Andrew her dream competitor would be Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett, explaining she could flutter her eyelashes at him to distract and charm him. Taking the chance for a friendly shot at the absent Chaser, Andrew jokes: “I bet you could probably flutter your nostrils at the Beast and charm him!”

Of course the show wouldn’t be the show it is without some classic jokes from Andrew himself, and he delights the crowd after finishing each of the first rounds by joking: “That was like a Mongolian honeymoon, it was in-tents!”
