Netflix’s drama series Bridgerton is returning for a second steamy season, and the streaming services has given fans a first look.
The new season will shift focus from Daphne Brigerton (played by Phoebe Dynevor) to her elder brother, Lord Anthony Brigerton (played by Jonathan Bailey), and his quest to find a wife.
According to The Daily Telegraph, the first season, which was based on Julia Quinn’s novel The Duke and I had some of the most sexiest scenes of any show in 2020, was such a hit it was streamed by over 82 million households across the globe in its first month alone. So it’s a no brainer that the next season, which will likely pull from the series’ second book, The Viscount Who Loved Me, will be just as swoon-worthy.
The first trailer doesn’t give too much away, but it’s already given a taster of what to expect — a lot of sexual tension.
“We pick up with Anthony after we’ve seen what he’s been through with his mistress,” Bridgerton creator Chris Van Dusen told Variety back in August. “He’s thinking, ‘Was that love?’ Some would call it that, others would not. We’re exploring those concepts of duty and honour once again.”
Fans of the show are already getting excited about the new season. One viewer wrote: “Some Pride and Prejudice vibes going here.”
Another added: “The second book is my favourite in the series so I’m very excited for this!!” While a third wrote: “This book was so good!! I can’t wait to watch this.”
All your favourite characters will be coming back for season two, except for Regé-Jean Page’s character the Duke of Hastings, much to the disappointment of many fans. Netflix have also announced a string of new cast members, including Simone Ashley as Anthony’s love interest Kate Sharma.
Netflix announced season two will return in 2022. The streaming service has already renewed Bridgerton for season three and season four.
