She’s been in the business for decades but it looks like Barbra Streisand is getting set to quit performing for good.
The news comes after the 75-year-old recently filmed a concert for streaming TV website Netflix.
Barbra: The Music … The Mem’ries .. The Magic! Is due to hit screens tomorrow and follows Streisand on her 13-city tour of America. As well as the concert itself, the special is expected to feature plenty behind-the-scenes moments and personal stories from the Broadway legend herself.
But if comments by the ‘Woman in Love’ singer are to be believed, the Netflix special may be the last time fans get a glimpse of her in action.
According to the Daily Mail, the ‘It Had to Be You’ hit maker is hanging up her microphone for good.
“No, I would never do another show. It’s exhausting,” they report her telling The Associated Press.
“I’m not ever going to sit down and plan another show like I had to do with this one.”
And despite being one of the most recognisable faces in the business, Steisand said that she doesn’t like being the centre of attention.
“I don’t enjoy getting up on stage and prancing around. I feel like a show off,” she added to Reuters.
“I don’t like being a show off. I like to be still. I like to sit in my chair and sing quietly to the audience. It’s hard for me to be too theatrical.”
She added that spending three months planning a concert takes its toll on a performer, especially when it takes just as long to film a movie.
Fans of the singer will recall that she infamously forgot the lyrics during a Central Park concert in New York City back in 1967, crippling her with severe stage fright ever since.
She concluded: “I really envy those who enjoy performing in front of people. I just don’t, that’s why I love recordings or doing movies.”
