She’s a well-known face on Aussie TV screens thanks to her role hosting Seven News and Seven’s weekend current affairs show Sunday Night until her surprise departure in 2015, after almost 20 years with the network.
But now Chris Bath has announced a surprise TV comeback as she takes over presenting Network Ten’s national weekend news, having enjoyed roles on ABC Radio over the last three years.
The 51-year-old confirmed the news on her official Instagram page, joking she will need to get a haircut now she’s set to make her grand return to TV.
“Thrilled to be joining the vibrant team at the Ten Network in 2019 to read their national weekend news @channel10au and mess with @shortblack_’s stash of maroon clothes come State of Origin time instead of mere social media posts,” she wrote.
“It’s a best of all worlds year for me ahead, working with two great teams of people. My ABC radio Evenings legends & now the crew I’ve met as a visitor to Channel Ten these past few years. 2019 is the year of multi-media, manchild gap year (schools out 4 ever), birdnerding, vegi farming (sic) and beekeeping. And I really need a haircut. Somehow I’ll fit it all in.”
Her fans rushed to congratulate her on the news, with one commenting on the post: “You go girl! Congratulations my dear!” While another added: “Congrats mate! Well done! Team Bath.”
And one added: “Oh fantastic! My goodness when will you sleep.”
Bath will continue presenting Evenings with Chris Bath on ABC Radio Sydney, Canberra and NSW alongside her new commitment to Network Ten.
She previously quit Seven News in 2014, announcing at the time she wished to concentrate on presenting Sunday Night. However, she stepped down from that role a year later and quit Seven completely, to later be replaced by Melissa Doyle.
“Chris is one of Australia’s most respected news presenters,” Ten’s network director of news content, Ross Dagan, said in a statement.
“Her formidable journalistic credentials and decades of presenting experience are welcome additions to our already impressive line-up of presenters for 10 News First across the country.”
