Your weekend streaming guide

Netflix – Paid Subscription – Dark Winds

TV SERIES · CRIME THRILLER · MYSTERY DRAMA

If you are searching for a genuinely gripping crime series that feels completely different to the usual detective dramas, Dark Winds is one of the best hidden gems currently streaming. Set in the hauntingly beautiful landscapes of the American Southwest during the 1970s, the series follows Navajo Tribal Police officers Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee as they investigate a string of disturbing crimes that quickly spiral into something much larger and far more dangerous. Based on the novels by Tony Hillerman, the series combines slow burn suspense with rich cultural storytelling and stunning cinematography. Zahn McClarnon is exceptional as Leaphorn and the atmosphere is so immersive it becomes impossible not to get pulled in. If you enjoyed True Detective or Mare of Easttown, this absolutely deserves your attention.

ABC iview – Free – Goolagong

DOCUMENTARY · SPORT · AUSTRALIAN STORY

Even if you are not a tennis fan, Goolagong is an incredibly moving watch. This beautiful Australian documentary explores the life and legacy of Evonne Goolagong Cawley, from her childhood growing up in rural New South Wales to becoming one of the greatest players the sport has ever seen. Using archival footage and personal reflections, the documentary captures both her extraordinary sporting achievements and the challenges she faced as a young Indigenous woman navigating international fame. It is warm, emotional and deeply inspiring television.

Disney+ – Paid Subscription – Donna Hay Coastal Celebrations

FOOD AND LIFESTYLE SERIES

Donna Hay and coastal Australia are pretty much a perfect combination, and this gorgeous new series is exactly the kind of calming comfort viewing many of us need right now. Set against spectacular seaside backdrops, Donna Hay Coastal Celebrations blends food, entertaining and relaxed coastal living into one very bingeable package filled with fresh seasonal recipes, stunning tablescapes and effortless entertaining ideas. Visually, it is absolutely beautiful television and impossible not to feel calmer watching it.

SBS On Demand – Free – Who Do You Think You Are? Australia

DOCUMENTARY SERIES · FAMILY HISTORY · FREE TO STREAM

There is a reason Who Do You Think You Are? has remained such a beloved format for years. Done well, it becomes far more than celebrity genealogy. It is really about identity, family secrets and the way history quietly shapes who we become. The Australian version continues to deliver emotional and fascinating television, with celebrities uncovering stories they never knew existed within their own family histories. Some discoveries are uplifting, others heartbreaking, but every episode leaves you reflecting on your own family story.

BritBox – Paid Subscription – The Bletchley Circle

TV SERIES · BRITISH MYSTERY DRAMA

If you missed The Bletchley Circle the first time around, now is the perfect time to catch up because this clever British mystery series remains hugely underrated.
Set in post war London during the 1950s, the story follows four former female codebreakers from Bletchley Park who become amateur detectives after realising the police have failed to connect a series of murders. Atmospheric, intelligent and packed with strong performances, it is a must watch for fans of British crime dramas with substance.

10 Play – Free – Taskmaster

COMEDY PANEL SHOW · REALITY · FREE TO STREAM

There are very few shows guaranteed to make me laugh out loud every single episode, but Taskmaster absolutely does it. A group of comedians are given absurd tasks and somehow even the simplest challenges descend into total chaos.
Hosted by Greg Davies alongside Alex Horne, the show thrives on awkwardness, panic and increasingly ridiculous problem solving. It is pure joyful nonsense and exactly the sort of easy watch that can completely turn your mood around.

All shows available now unless otherwise stated. Happy viewing.
