This week’s streaming picks take us from a dangerous casino robbery and a picturesque town with a suspicious number of murders to Regency England and the open roads of the American Southwest. Two popular crime series also return, with Hudson & Rex back on the case and Guy Ritchie’s sharply dressed criminals expanding their empire.

ABC iview – Free – The Cage

Casino workers Leanne and Matty are both secretly stealing from the same safe, but neither knows what the other is doing. When their schemes collide, the pair become entangled with each other, the local gangster whose money they have taken and the police investigating the theft. Starring Sheridan Smith and Michael Socha, this tense five-part British drama follows two desperate people whose decisions place them on a dangerous collision course.

Set in a quiet New England town, You’re Killing Me stars Brooke Shields as Allie, a bestselling mystery novelist who joins forces with aspiring writer and true-crime podcaster Andi to investigate the suspicious death of a close friend. The unlikely amateur detectives soon clash with local police detective Jack Kerrigan, played by The Flash and Scrubs star Tom Cavanagh. Executive produced by Shields, the light-hearted murder mystery also stars Amalia Williamson from Sullivan’s Crossing.

Netflix – Paid – The Gentlemen Season 2

Theo James and Kaya Scodelario return as Eddie Horniman and Susie Glass in the second season of Guy Ritchie’s stylish crime series. A year has passed since Eddie and Susie joined forces to work within Bobby Glass’s criminal empire. They are now expanding their operation beyond the cannabis farm beneath the Halstead estate and into Italy, but Bobby’s increasingly questionable decisions could jeopardise everything they have built. Eddie’s growing ambition also places further pressure on his complicated alliance with Susie. Expect sharply dressed criminals, dark humour, betrayals and elaborate power plays.

SBS On Demand – Free – Hudson & Rex Season 7

Detective Charlie Hudson and his German shepherd partner, Rex, face some of their most challenging cases yet in the seventh season of this popular Canadian crime series. Their partnership is stretched across continents when Charlie travels to Central America to search for his missing brother, trusting Rex to help unite the team back in St John’s. Sarah steps further into the field as an investigator, while Donovan and Jesse bring their own expertise to cases involving everything from a killer beekeeper to an untraceable theft ring. The crimes may change, but Rex’s remarkable instincts and his bond with the Major Crimes team remain at the heart of the series.

Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon star as two friends whose weekend escape becomes a desperate journey across the American Southwest. After a violent encounter leaves them running from the law, Thelma and Louise find freedom, danger and a renewed sense of control on the open road. Directed by Ridley Scott and featuring an early performance from Brad Pitt, this 1991 classic remains as funny, moving and compelling as ever.

BINGE – Paid – The Other Bennet Sister

The overlooked middle Bennet sister finally steps into the spotlight in this warm Regency drama based on Janice Hadlow’s novel. After spending much of her life in the shadows of her more celebrated sisters, Mary journeys from Meryton to London and the Lake District in search of independence and somewhere she truly belongs. Her path leads to greater confidence, new possibilities and an unexpected love story. Ella Bruccoleri stars as Mary, alongside Ruth Jones as Mrs Bennet and Richard E. Grant as Mr Bennet. Familiar characters and settings will appeal to Jane Austen fans, while Mary’s journey offers a fresh perspective on the Bennet family.
