Rolling Stones star Mick Jagger to undergo heart surgery: Report

The Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger is set to undergo surgery this week putting the bands upcoming tour on hold.

Multiple news outlets have reported the star will have heart valve surgery on Friday in New York and will spend a few months recovering before taking to the stage again.

The announcement, first reported in the Drudge Report, follows news at the weekend that the frontman would step away from performing momentarily to receive medical treatment for an unspecified health issue.

In a statement, the band said that doctors had advised Jagger, 75, not to tour. The Rolling Stones were due to kick off the tour in Florida on April 20 and conclude in Chicago on June 21.

“Mick has been advised by doctors that he cannot go on tour at this time, as he needs medical treatment,” the statement read.

“The doctors have advised Mick that he is expected to make a complete recovery so that he can get back on stage as soon as possible.”

The statement added that tickets will be valid for rescheduled dates.

Jagger also apologised directly to fans on social media: “I’m so sorry to all our fans in America & Canada with tickets. I really hate letting you down like this. I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can. Once again, huge apologies to everyone.”

Meanwhile, band mate Keith Richards wrote on Twitter: “A big disappointment for everyone but things need to be taken care of and we will see you soon. Mick, we are always there for you!”

Fans were quick to comment, with one writing: “Here’s to a speedy recovery! There’s no other frontman in the world like you.”

Another added: “We love you Mick! get well soon, your health is more important than the tour.”

While a third wrote: “Please be well. Take care of yourself. We’ll be here rocking and thinking of you! Get well sooner than soon! Love you!!”

It followed news The Rolling Stones rocker Ronnie Wood had been told to “enjoy life” after being given the all clear following his lung cancer scare. The 71-year-old was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2017, and kept it secret for around three months as he focused on the health battle in private.

Wood previously revealed doctors had found the cancer on his lung early enough to treat it, before it had chance to spread further. He even admitted at the time that if it had spread any further, he would have chosen not to have chemo.
