Most people have been in a situation where they go out to a fancy restaurant for dinner or a special occasion, only to find that they’re not hungry after munching on bread before the main course.
Others opt to deprive themselves of food before a big meal so they can fit more in and enjoy the night. While you’re not alone if you’re a person who does this, TV chef Gordon Ramsay has suggested that it probably isn’t doing your body any favours – especially if you’re trying to watch your figure.
Instead, he’s released an array of tips so diners can fully enjoy a dinner. Surprisingly, one of his biggest tips is to fill up on food before you head out.
According to the Daily Mail, the 51-year-old’s tips are part of a guide so people can stay in shape, but still enjoy a lovely meal. The tips appear as part of his latest book.
In addition to ditching bread, which he claims is a waste of money when eating out, he also suggests that you shouldn’t order a side of chips or fries and that people concerned about their weight should always opt for the lightest meal on the menu and stick to it.
Another tip is to stick to just one glass of wine or a beer all night.
“I know only too well that chefs don’t hold back when it comes to the fattening stuff like butter, cream, cheese, sugar and chocolate,” the Daily Mail reports the Hell’s Kitchen star saying.
“I don’t want to be deprived at home, let alone when I am out for dinner, so I set myself some rules which mean I can enjoy myself as much as everyone else.”
In addition, he claims that being extremely hungry when you arrive at a dinner table isn’t a good idea. Instead, he says that eating a lunch that is full of protein and even a light snack in the afternoon can make all the difference.
If that wasn’t enough, he also shared some personal tips that he uses when he dines out. He says that he and his wife Tana typically share a starter and dessert. That way they are eating less calories without missing out.
The Scottish-born chef has found international fame with an array of successful TV shows and books. At one point he even had his own video game.
He’s famous for using profanities in the kitchen and has world-class restaurants in a variety of locations around the world including Melbourne, Cape Town, Tokyo, Japan, France and Italy – just to name a few.
Remind us not to order bread if we ever visit one of his kitchens!
