While they aren’t the cleanest of foods to snack on, these honey-soy chicken wings are some of the most popular finger foods that you can bring out at a party. The homemade versions of these tend to turn out much more flavoursome than the usual store-bought chicken wings.

You can try serving as finger foods for a party or get together or as a main meal paired with rice and veggies or whichever sides you desire!

Ingredients

    • 175g (1/2 cup) honey
    • 125ml (1/2 cup) soy sauce
    • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
    • 2cm piece ginger, finely grated
    • 1 long red chilli, seeded, finely chopped
    • 12 large chicken wings
    • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 230C. In a heavy based saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, chilli and ¼ cup of water. Place over high heat and bring to boil. Stir mixture to combine and melt the honey. Pour half of the honey mixture into a roasting pan and allow to cool for 5 minutes.
  2. In the saucepan, let the remaining honey mixture simmer on medium heat for 10 minutes, until it appears syrupy. Set aside.
  3. In the roasting pan, add chicken and stir to coast generously in honey mixture. Season with salt and pepper. Cook chicken for 40 minutes, making sure to turn frequently. Make sure chicken is dark golden before taking off heat and leaving to rest for 5 minutes.
  4. Place chicken evenly on plates and drizzle with left over honey mixture. Top with sesame seeds. Serve hot.
