Ingham’s has recalled one of its popular products from supermarkets across Australia because the food may contain “pieces of hard plastic”.

Australia and New Zealand’s biggest poultry producer said that 400 gram packages of its Chicken Sweet Chilli Tenders sold in Coles, Woolworths, SPAR and IGA stores were not suitable for consumption. The packages have use-by dates of 28/02/19 and 01/03/19.

It said it had notified all the supermarkets and the relevant food authorities in both countries about the issue and that consumers should take the chicken tenders back to the store they were purchased from for a full refund.

“Ingham’s takes food safety seriously and sincerely apologises for this incident. If any consumer has any questions, please call 1800 785 940 or email [email protected],” the company said.

Chicken tenders are usually a favourite with children, so much so that Ingham promotes them in its kid-friendly recipes on its website, as well as saying that they have no added hormones and being made with 100 per cent Aussie chicken.
