He’s known as one of the smartest Chasers on popular quiz show The Chase but on a recent episode that aired in the United Kingdom, Mark “The Beast” Labbett was completely stumped by a question he should have known the answer to.

In a world first for the 52-year-old, he didn’t even push his button in an attempt to answer the question.

During one of the rounds, host Bradley Walsh asked The Beast a question about British soap EastEnders.

“Charlie Jones and Joshua Pascoe have both played which EastEnders character?” asked Walsh.

Labbett could choose from either Peter Beale, Ben Mitchell or Martin Fowler. While he’s usually quick to answer questions, the Chaser sat behind his desk without pressing a button or moving. Eventually, he had waited so long that Walsh needed to continue with the show.

“Oh, the Chaser’s out of time. That’s what we love,” he joked.

Labbett was clearly shocked he was unable to answer the question.

“That’s never happened,” he said. “Ever.”

“There’s always a first time for everything,” Walsh replied. ‘Don’t forget the little rule. When either player presses, you have five seconds in which to make your answer.”

Fed up with the taunting, The Beast jokingly threatened the host.

“Aww, you’re getting such a slap,” he said.

Walsh could then be seen hiding behind the contestant, much to the delight of the audience.

Meanwhile, the contestant correctly guessed the answer was Ben Mitchell and moved a step closer to winning the cash prize.

While he’s incorrectly answered questions on the British, Australian and American versions of the show, it was the first time he failed to guess an answer. Viewers at home flooded Twitter with confusion over Labbett’s blunder.

One wrote: “Huh. Never seen that happen before.”

Another said: “Wow. The Beast ran out of time lol.”
