‘It was a really fast fall’: James Packer’s ex recalls hitting rock bottom

James Packer’s ex has opened up on hitting rock bottom after her high profile split from the billionaire – admitting she was forced to check into a homeless shelter after throwing $500K worth of jewellery he gave her into the sea.

Tziporah Malkah, 44, formerly known as Kate Fischer, also recalled the moment she found her ex stood still for 40 minutes in the shower in one of his darkest moments during their relationship.

Opening up on Channel 7’s Sunday Night, Tziporah took viewers back to her modelling days when she first met Kerry Packer’s son and embarked on a whirlwind relationship with him. She claimed she initially turned him down when he asked her out, before eventually changing her mind and going on to get engaged.

“I found the lifestyle very exciting and dazzling… We had a great friendship,” she said. Quizzed by the reporter over her use of the word ‘friendship’, Tziporah added: “There was love but there was complications in that love – mainly because of my jealousy and possessiveness.”

Recalling the huge influence James’ father Kerry had on him before his death, Tziporah said: “Kerry would rage at him for hours at a time…”

While she said James would keep his emotions to himself afterwards, she recalled once sneaking a look when he thought he was alone.

“He was in the shower… just standing there with the water running over his face and he’d been in there for 40 minutes. This was a daily occurrence. I peaked in and he was a mess,” she said.

From there, the relationship began to break down and she explained: “I realised our relationship was in trouble when people started suggesting that he was seeing someone else and I was the last to know… He married her.”

From there, James enjoyed a series of high profile romances, including getting engaged to worldwide pop star Mariah Carey.

“When Kerry died and he was the man, he could go after the world’s biggest diva…” Tziporah said on the show. “And how exciting for him? He was let off the leash.”

Unfortunately for Tziporah, her own life after the engagement was turbulent to say the least as she slowly lost the millions he left her following their break-up.

“Some of it [the money] went on lifestyle and some went into an investment that never eventuated,” she explained. In fact, Tziporah was scammed out of a lot of her fortune by a man she previously met.

“I was told I’d be given my own property in LA. Realising I’d been duped and swindled was just beyond… just, the betrayal,” she said in an emotional confession on camera.

Eventually, she fled back to Australia with the $500,000 worth of jewellery given to her by James.

When the reporter referenced a “crazy” story he once heard about a woman throwing her jewellery into the ocean, Tziporah laughed and replied: “What a nut!” However, she then added: “Yeah, that’s true I did.”

Left with no money to her name, Tziporah was forced to check into a homeless shelter in Melbourne. She admitted: “I was terrified and ashamed, I felt lonely and angry.”

Since then, she’s managed to get a job in aged care and finally moved out of the shelter.

Looking back on her former days modelling in the limelight as Kate, Tziporah said of her former self: “She was good looking, gorgeous, she had the world at her feet – but it’s over.”

“Reality came to me like a real bucket of water in my face… It was a really fast fall, it was a shock to the system, it was hard to cope with.”

With her loss of money, Tziporah also began to struggle with an unhealthy lifestyle – as she admitted she began drinking and eating too much.

“I turned to the comfort of food and alcohol. I really hit it hard, I hit it harder than I ever have,” she admitted, before running through some of her favourite foods including bottles of wine, a family sized pizza, desserts, garlic bread and vodka – “to amp it up a bit”.

“I was drinking very heavily,” she added.

Elsewhere, Tziporah made headlines when she legally changed her name, and finally clarifying why she did it, she said on the show: “The name Tziporah has been in my family for generations, and it signified how proud I am to be Jewish.”

Concluding the show, cameras followed the star to a health retreat where she was undergoing hypnosis to try to lose weight and battle her demons.
