Studio 10’s Denise Scott threatens to walk off TV set over ‘ageist’ joke

She’s one of Australia’s favourite TV personalities and comedians but that didn’t stop Denise Scott from being the butt of the joke on Monday’s episode of Channel Ten’s Have You Been Paying Attention?

The 63-year-old joined Ed Kavalee, Tony Martin, Melanie Bracewell and Sam Pang on the show, where they did their best to answer questions about topics making headlines around the country in the past week.

During the episode, quizmaster Tom Gleisner asked the contestants: “Good news for the giant Australian cuttlefish this week. What happened?”

Martin was the first to press his buzzer and take aim at Scott.

“It’s joining the cast of Studio 10,” he quipped.

Fans will recall Scott joined the cast of the popular Channel Ten show earlier this year after Jessica Rowe and Ita Buttrose departed the panel.

Pang was next to poke fun at Scott by adding on to Martin’s joke.

“It’s got a bit too much life in it for that, I would have thought,” he joked, much to the delight of the live studio audience.

Getting in on the joke, the House Husbands star got up out of her chair and threatened to walk off set.

“No, no, no,” she said, waving her hands in the air as her co-stars burst into fits of laughter. “It took me until 63 to get a job on that show Sam. Now you’re taking away the bit of glory I’ve got.”

Gleisner told Peng and Martin to apologise, while Kavalee joked the fake fight was the best drama Channel Ten had aired in years.

“You’ll be on Studio 10 one day and you’ll be happy,” Scott said as she returned to her chair in laughter.

Scott’s Studio 10 co-star Joe Hildebrand got in on the action from home.

“Disgusted by the rampant ageism by those disrespectful millennials on #HYBPA,” he tweeted. “Frankly I have jokes that are older than @MrSamPang.”

Jokes aside, plenty of fans flooded social media to praise Scott for her appearance on Have You Been Paying Attention.

One person wrote: “Denise Scott is on fire tonight. Suits this format.”

Another said: “The Sam Pang/Denise Scott showdown will most likely go down as my favourite tv moment of 2018.”

A third added: “Denise Scott killing it on #HYBPA.”

While her fake fight with Pang won fans over, she was also forced to face Jimmy Barnes on Tuesday’s Studio 10 after mimicking him on Monday’s episode.

Scott broke out into song while attempting to answer a question about Barnes on the show. The singer joked that the pair should do a duet together, while Scott warned him she was taking his offer seriously.
