ABC host Virginia Trioli trolled over ‘annoying’ habit in rude letter

Virginia Trioli is a well-known face on ABC’s News Breakfast, putting her in the line of fire when it comes to petty viewers and critics on social media.

However, one viewer took their annoyance to a whole new level when they sent her a handwritten letter detailing their anger over one particular “annoying” habit they’d picked up on.

Proving she could see the funny side of the nasty note, Trioli shared a photo of it on social media and it’s sparked outrage from her fans as they react to the bizarre words.

The note takes aim at her hand movements of all things, and urges her to either keep them clasped together in front of her or hidden somewhere they can’t continuously move in front of cameras.

“Dear Madam, you have a most annoying habit of deliberately shifting your hands from one position to another when you could just clasp them in front of you like your co-host,” the letter reads.

It goes on: “Several women have the same habit, having to hold a pen or their fingertips like Melissa Doyle. Others stretch their arms out to the side of the desk. Ray Martin has always had this problem. He never knows what to do with his hands.

“Watching you has been very off-putting and several of my friends say they cannot watch you at all. You have a nice smile and voice, so please, just keep your hands still.”

She was immediately inundated with support from fans, with her fellow TV star and journalist Edwina Bartholomew writing: “Such lovely penmanship. Shame.”

Meanwhile one fan wrote: “Imagine being so annoyed by this that by the time you’ve finished writing your letter, buying a stamp, finding the postal address for the abc and then going to post it that you STILL think sending this is a good idea.”

And one joked: “I suggest a whole morning of jazz hands, with zero clasping.”

It’s not the first time Trioli has received a shock letter in the post, and in 2014 she received another critical note this time taking aim at her appearance, and calling for her to have a full makeover.

“I felt I had to write as you are definitely in need of a makeover,” the letter read. “Please cut your hair short. Get rid of those straggly bits around your neck, and maybe a few highlights!”
