Mariah Carey has left thousands of fans heartbroken by cancelling her upcoming tour in Australia and New Zealand, just months after she already pushed the dates back.

The singer and ex of billionaire James Packer, 48, confirmed she wouldn’t be heading Down Under in October as planned, blaming a scheduling issue for the shock cancellation.

“It is with much regret that I am unable to visit Australia and New Zealand later this year, however I promise to find new dates soon,” she said in a statement, according to multiple news outlets.

“I’ve been working away on new music and I cannot wait to share it with you later this year.”

The new dates are yet to be set and confirmed.

The tour was initially scheduled for February, but the singer pushed the dates back to October just a few months before, promising a “much bigger tour” at the time.

Tour promoters MJR Presents added: “We are disappointed that Mariah’s shows are cancelled but look forward to hearing her new material soon.’

“Full refunds will be given to all ticket holders from their original point of purchase and we apologise for the inconvenience to fans and ticket holders.”

Mariah is yet to add further comment on her social media channels, and it comes just hours after she shared a moving tribute to her friend, the late Whitney Houston, on what would have been her birthday.

Posting a short video of them on stage together, both wearing matching plunging dresses, Mariah recalled the moment the singers wore the same outfit to an awards bash before cheekily whipping off their skirts to reveal a much shorter design underneath.

Embracing each other in front of the cheering crowd, both stars looked happy and relaxed as they addressed their fans at the time.

Meanwhile, she followed it with a photo of them stood back to back from their days collaborating and performing together. This time, she added the caption: “Thinking of Whitney on her born day. I miss you, friend #tbt #Legendary #WhitneyHouston.”

Whitney Houston sadly died in February 2012, with her official cause of death ruled as coronary artery disease. She was found lying in her bath tub in the hotel she was staying at in the time.

What do you think of Mariah Carey cancelling her tour? Were you or anyone you know set to go?
