Penny Cook from A Country Practice has died at 61

Penny Cook, one of the most famous faces of Australian drama in the 1980s has died of cancer aged 61 last night.  Known to many as the veterinarian Vicki Dean from A Country Practice, she will be remembered fondly by a generation.  

Cook’s family has released a statement today via her management company saying “beloved partner, mother, daughter, sister and dear friend died peacefully”. 

“The family wish to express their thanks for all messages of condolence forwarded to them.” 

Penny Cook began her career in Australian television back in the 70s with The Restless Years, then moving onto her widely revered role as Vicky Dean in A Country Practice from 1981 to 1985. She starred in more than 100 episodes of the show which was built around the Wandin Valley Bush Hospital, marrying on-screen husband Simon Bowen to become Vicky Bowen on the show.  

She also appeared on The Flying Doctors, and The Great Outdoors.

Cook leaves behind her daughter Poppy and husband David Lynch.
