Dolly Parton’s brother and songwriting partner Floyd dies aged 61

Dolly Parton’s singer-songwriter brother Floyd Parton has died aged 61.

The talented musician sadly passed away on December 6, according to Tennessee’s Atchley Funeral Home.

The Parton family held a private service to farewell Floyd, who was well known for his musical abilities as a songwriter and composer. He wrote a number of hits with his country music star sister Dolly.

Two of his most famous songs include ‘Rockin’ Years’, which was recorded by his sister Dolly and Ricky Van Shelton, and ‘Nickels and Dimes’, also recorded by Dolly and then later by George Burns.

“A renaissance man, Floyd was a man of many talents and areas of knowledge,” an obituary on the funeral home’s website read. “He was an avid outdoorsman and had an abundant knowledge of nature as well as being an incredible cook.”

One of Floyd’s other sisters Stella, who is also a talented musician, took to social media the day after his death, leaving a touching message for her followers.

“And Jesus said to him, receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee,” she wrote on Twitter. “Have a beautiful day on this bright and brisk Thursday. I am spending the day with my beautiful brother Floyd.”

Others have also taken to Twitter to share their condolences since news broke of Floyd’s death. 

“RIP Floyd Parton. @DollyParton sorry for your loss, prayer to Randy, Stella, Cassie, Freida, Rachel and the rest of the family,” one person posted.

While another added: “I am very sorry for your loss of Floyd Parton. I pray God sends comfort to you all”.

And a third said: “Praying for the family! Even though we aren’t family and we don’t know you all personally. The coat movies have some how made your family apart of ours! Sending love and hugs your way!”

Dolly, who usually abstains from commenting on her private life, has not yet publicly spoken about her brother’s death. 

Floyd leaves behind his siblings Dolly, Rachel, Willadeene, 78, Stella, 69, Cassie, 67, and Freida, 61, as well as brothers David, 76, Coy Denver, 75, Bobby, 70, and Randy, 64, along with several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
