A former AFL star has penned a heartbreaking tribute to his wife after she passed away suddenly – reportedly after suffering complications from an operation.

Sporting star Brad Green, 38, took to social media on Monday to share the devastating news about his partner Anna, whom he shares two children with, 7 News reports.

According to The Herald Sun, the young mum and lifestyle blogger died following surgery after suffering an eye injury.

In a post shared on Instagram, the much loved former Melbourne Demons player reportedly wrote: “Goodbyes are not forever, are not the end, I’ll miss you until we meet again. Rest easy my darling.”

The couple first met as children growing up in Tasmania, however, it wasn’t until years later when they were both living in Melbourne that the relationship began, the Herald Sun reports. Brad and Anna went on to marry in December of 2013 and had two sons together, aged seven and nine.

While Brad became famous for his career in football, playing for the Melbourne Demons before working as an assistant coach at Carlton and North Melbourne, Anna worked in the fashion retail industry and launched her even own brand.

Since the devastating news of Anna’s death broke, tributes have continued to roll in for the mother-of-two.

Speaking about the loss, Melbourne teammate David Schawarz said he was with the heartbroken sportsman on Sunday.

“It’s just shocking,” he told the Herald Sun. “She’s just a baby, and has two little bubbies. It is horrible.”

Meanwhile others have taken to social media to share their messages for the young family.

“Terribly heartbroken. Rest easy beautiful Anna. She’ll have a place in my heart forever,” Jerri Jones, the wife of current Melbourne co-captain Nathan Jones wrote, according to the Herald Sun.

While the North Melbourne football club added: “Our thoughts are with Brad Green and his family after the tragic passing of his wife Anna.”

Fans of the football star also took the opportunity to share a message with the loving husband.

“Thoughts & prayers are with Brad, his family & friends,” one person commented on Twitter.

“This is extremely sad, thinking of you Brad,” another wrote.
