The heartbroken family of a baby boy who died in an apparent murder-suicide on the Sunshine Coast have broken their silence in a moving statement.

A woman, claiming to be the cousin of the distraught mother of the baby, penned an emotional message on a Go Fund Me page to raise money for the funeral of the six-month old – who was found deceased in a car at Coochin Creek with his 46-year-old father this week.

In the heartbreaking statement, the woman asked for anyone to come forward to assist with the funeral and claimed the mother and her family are already struggling with money.

“It is with great sadness that I have to open up this Go Fund Me page,” she began. “I am raising money for my cousin and her family after this horrific tragedy occurred.”

The statement continued by saying how the mother needs time to grieve after confirmation on Wednesday that her beloved baby boy was found dead at the Roys Road camping ground.

“This mother needs all the held we can give her so she can grieve for the loss of her child,” the woman wrote. “She says she needs to go back to work to pay the mortgage and for her babies [sic] funeral.”

She went on to say how distraught they all were at the shock loss of the baby, claiming the father should not have had access to his son. The woman blamed the court for not enforcing stricter measures to keep the two apart.

“This should never have happened! The courts have let her down and not kept the babies [sic] father away from her son,” she claimed in the statement. “Now this beautiful and innocent baby boy has been taken from her.”

“Please help her and her kids to be able to pay for everything they need to so that they can grieve. This is the saddest day for everyone involved,” she concluded.

Queensland Police are yet to formally identify the baby and father but confirmed in a press conference, filmed by 7 News, that they are both from the Redcliffe area. The little boy was reported missing on Monday and police added that there had been a domestic incident prior to their tragic deaths – although they wouldn’t specify exactly what had happened.

“The mother was distraught, as you can imagine,” Detective Inspector Dave Drinnen said on camera. “It’s still early stages in the investigation and we will be determining the circumstances surrounding [the deaths] but at this stage we have a tragic incident in which a father and his child are deceased.”

He added: “It’s a very tragic incident.”

Police added in a statement: “At this stage, detectives are treating the death of the child as suspicious and the man’s death as non-suspicious. Investigations are continuing.”
