‘Narcissist and fake’: Karl Stefanovic’s ex lashes out in airport ‘rant’

She’s remained fairly tight-lipped over the last few months in the run-up to her ex husband Karl Stefanovic’s wedding to new bride Jasmine Yarbrough.

But, according to New Idea, Cassandra Thorburn – who was married to the Today show host for more than 20 years – launched a furious attack on her ex-husband at the weekend, branding him a “narcissist” and “fake”.

The news outlet reports the mother-of-three let rip as she landed in Sydney airport after a weekend in Melbourne, shortly after Karl tied the knot with Jasmine on Saturday in a lavish Mexican ceremony.

“He’s thrown three weddings for goodness sake. Who needs three weddings in a year? Give us a break,” Cassandra was quoted as telling a reporter. “Three weddings and a funeral. We had a funeral and it was my dad’s.”

Cassandra has since denied the claims and told the Daily Mail Australia: “There was no interview or rant.”

However, New Idea went on to claim she continued the “rant” by branding her ex husband “fake”, before referencing Karl’s ‘sexism experiment’ in 2014 which saw him claim to wear the same Burberry suit every day for a year. He said he was doing it at the time as an experiment in sexism in the media – but Cassandra insisted he lied and never actually did it.

She is then claimed to have added: “After we separated he… said [to me]: ‘It is very, very hard to be the best journalist in Australia, quite possibly the world’. That tells you who that man is and who he thinks he is.”

Cassandra hasn’t addressed the wedding on any of her social media channels over the weekend, instead sharing a photo of the front cover of hit novel The Handmaid’s Tale and claiming she was busy reading it on her journey to and from the city.

While some of New Idea‘s stories should be taken with a grain of salt, they have quoted Cassandra as speaking directly to a reporter this time round.

It comes after Karl and Jasmine tied the knot in the Mexican resort of San Jose del Cabo on Saturday, before partying the night away with around 200 wedding guests following the ceremony at the lavish One Only Palmilla Resort chapel.

Jasmine looked every inch the blushing bride in a custom above-the-knee gown which featured a long train by Australian designer Jessica Andreatta. The mini dress featured soft blush tulle, and patterned beading over the lace. She wore her blonde locks in a low elegant bun – attached to which was a long lace veil.

Meanwhile, Karl looked dapper in a white Tom Ford suit paired with R.M. Williams boots.
