With live television there is always the risk that something could go wrong. Michael Bolton appeared to fall asleep while giving an interview with The Morning Show on Tuesday via satellite, and the amusing moment was all caught on film.

The American singer-songwriter, 65, appeared to doze off after hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies cued him in for a live chat on the popular Channel Seven show.

“We’re looking forward to talking to the great man, Michael Bolton, who joins us live now from Florida. Good morning and welcome back to the show,” Larry said.

When Michael kept his eyes closed and didn’t answer, Larry tried again.

“Michael, you got us okay?”

Kylie also tried to get the singer’s attention by exclaiming: “Hi Michael. It’s Kylie and Larry. We’re with you live.”

Realising he had his eyes closed, Larry joked to viewers that Michael was “updating his Instagram”.

Michael’s eye then burst open and he replied “it’s gone silent” before seemingly falling back to sleep. Luckily, the apparent technical errors were eventually fixed and the ‘When a Man Loves a Woman’ singer joined the show.

Larry later recalled the incident on social media, sharing a hilarious video of Michael snoozing through the segment. Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, he wrote: “It’s why I LOVE live tv. I can’t promise you gold like this again today but hot damn we’re going to try.”

Many viewers were quick to comment, with one writing: “Absolutely hilarious.”

While another added: “50 [years] of hits takes its toll u [sic] know.”

And a third wrote: “Omg this is so funny.”

This isn’t the first time a blunder has been caught on live television. An ABC journalist was caught off guard last year yelling at her hair stylist to get out of the shot while live on hair.

Like any TV reporter, Tamara Oudyn was getting a routine touch-up during the break when the camera turned back a little too early.

Instead of returning to the screen looking fresh faced and ready to present the news segment, Tamara was seen trying to shoo away her hair stylist who was still perfecting her look.

The journalist maintained a calm composure, staring straight into the camera as she asked the hair stylist to get out of the shot.

“Can you jump out please? Jump out, hurry,” she can be heard saying.

After realising they had started recording a little earlier than expected the hair stylist quickly dropped the hairspray in a basket and jumped to the side.

Speaking directly to the director Tamara then joked: “Are you kidding?”
