First Downton Abbey movie trailer released giving inside glimpse at film

It’s one of the most eagerly-anticipated movies in years and now the first teaser trailer for the new Downton Abbey film has finally been released.

The short video shows cameras slowly panning round the sprawling mansion revealing the memorable and elaborate furniture, before telling viewers they are “cordially invited to the motion picture event”.

From the bells in the servants quarters, to maids preparing the main bedrooms and even someone writing a private letter, there is a glimpse at some of the classic scenes being brought back to life.

And while the footage gives little away about the main plot of the film, it goes on to show vibrant moments as crowds line the streets waving Union Jack flags, as well as soldiers slowly walking down a road in formation.

Meanwhile, some of the servants are seen lining up outside to greet guests – appearing to be Mr Carson and Mrs Hughes as well as Bates, among others.

Fans loved the short video, with one commenting online: “I’VE MISSED THE THEME TUNE,” while another added: “I hate to admit this but hearing the theme again brought a tear to my eye. I missed this show.”

Meanwhile another joked: “The only thing I’m looking forward to in 2019.”

While the plot of the film has been kept a closely guarded secret, some of the main stars have been sharing sneak peeks behind the scenes over the last few months – helping fans to piece together a picture of what they can expect.

Set in 1926 – one year after the final episode – the movie is expected to be an emotional rollercoaster picking up where the TV series left off with almost the entire original cast returning.

It will once again take place inside the walls of Highclere Castle, as Anna Bates actress Joanne Frogatt previously shared an inside photo from behind the cameras inside Lady Mary’s bedroom.

It showed a shot between takes of an actress, appearing to be Lady Edith star Laura Carmichael, having her make-up touched up while sat in full period costume with her hair in her signature short, curled do. 

Joanne captioned the photo: “Little sneak peek behind the scenes of the Downton movie.”
