ABC host Virginia Trioli publishes viewer’s nasty Christmas note

Virginia Trioli is a well-known face on ABC’s News Breakfast, so it’s no surprise that she’s received a slew of complaints and suggestions from picky viewers over the years.

But this email might just take the cake when it comes to absurd criticism. One viewer took their annoyance to a whole new level when they sent the 53-year-old an email criticising her “ridiculous” and “dowdy” appearance.

Proving she’s not one to let the critics get the best of her, Virginia shared a photo of the note on social media, writing “Mail’s in”.

The email takes aim at her appearance, and urges her to invest in a mirror, a new hairdresser and jewellery to feminise her “severe appearance”.

“Virginia, I hope you have a happy Christmas and that these things are amongst your presents; 1. a mirror; 2. a hairdresser who doesn’t make you look ridiculous; 3. jewellery to wear ’round your neck and feminise your severe appearance.”

It goes on: “People on t.v should look their best but the staff at your studio allow you to go on camera looking dowdy with the plainest, most severe hairstyle possible. I feel sorry for you — when a person looks their best, they feel good. Just trying to help you.”

She was immediately inundated with support from other viewers.

One fan wrote: “Completely irrelevant tripe. I think you’re the best breakfast news anchor going today.”

Other viewers said they were more interested in the news than what she wore, with one writing: “I love watching you and that bloke. I couldn’t give a stuff what either of you are wearing, or what your hair or makeup looks like. I just want to know the news.”

Another added: “How do people find the time to write such dribble. I always think you look great… then again, I’m more interested in what you’re saying. Keep up the good work in 2019! Merry Christmas.”

It’s not the first time Virginia has made public some of the harsh notes she receives from viewers. Earlier this year she shared a photo of another nasty letter, this time taking aim at her hand movements.

“Dear Madam, you have a most annoying habit of deliberately shifting your hands from one position to another when you could just clasp them in front of you like your co-host,” the letter read.
