About Rory Gibson

Rory Gibson is a freelance newspaper columnist, travel writer and journalist based in Yamba in northern New South Wales. He moved there to get away from his three sons, who were eating him out of house and home in Brisbane. Yamba is close enough for them to visit for the weekend but too far for them to pop round and raid the fridge. Rory’s work includes writing a weekly column about beer for The Courier-Mail newspaper in Queensland, and another weekly column in Queensland’s Sunday Mail newspaper called You’ve Got Male. The brief from the editors for that one is to give women an insight into how men think (don’t laugh, men have feelings too). Rory’s wife died from breast cancer in 2010 — an event that cured him of any inclination to ever work in an office again — and he has been travelling the world since, determined to squeeze as much out of life before his time is up.
