Jonathan Sheridan’s been working in investment markets for more than 15 years, mainly for global investment banks – a varied background that gives him a broader market perspective than most, plus a non-traditional investment process.
Jon hails from Kent in England and moved to Australia initially for a two-year stay – that became a long-term life change and he and wife Alison became Aussie citizens in 2011.
Having studied biology and become a chartered accountant with PWC, Jon went on to work as a private banker with Credit Suisse, where he advised individuals and families on multi-asset class investment strategies and came to love markets, trading and, of course, fixed income. He then had a short stint as a stay-at-home dad to his two children before joining FIIG Securities.
Founded in 1998, FIIG is a privately owned business that helps Australian investors access the fixed income market.
Based in FIIG’s Sydney office, Jon is a regular commentator on fixed income matters on Sky Business News – “A few of my former colleagues have emailed me to say I’ve got a good face for radio!” – and a rugby fanatic who played Sydney grade for Northern Suburbs. And no matter what Aussies may say about traffic congestion, he reckons Sydney’s rush hour is nothing compared to the three-hour commute he did in the UK!
His top advice for his clients? In the midst of unprecedented central bank intervention in what’s now a global economy, be prepared for bubbles and crashes – and that means understanding the important role conservative assets play in an investment portfolio.
