Maho Beach on the Caribbean island of St Maarten has numerous attractions; crystal-clear water, great people-watching – oh, and planes that fly in just metres above your head.
Every day crowds gather to snap a plane-spotting selfie, completely ignoring the signs warning them against this. Jumbo jets fly super low as they come in to land at Princess Juliana airport, which is the second-busiest airport in the eastern Caribbean region, the Daily Mail reports.
The crowds are just another obstacle for the pilots who already face a challenging landing; meanwhile, some thrill-seekers will cling to the chainlink fence at the end of the runway when planes are taking off to get lifted into the air.
There are hundreds of videos and photos posted to social media documenting this dangerous and spectacular phenomenon, and we’re pretty happy to watch from the comfort of our own homes.
