Prince William is said to be “seriously considering” returning to his role as an air ambulance pilot to assist with the Covid-19 crisis, according to reports out of the UK.

Currently, the Duke of Cambridge and his wife Catherine are among the only royals still making appearances amid the coronavirus outbreak, with many older members of the family forced into strict self-isolation to protect them from contracting the disease.

Last week it was revealed that Prince Charles had contracted Covid-19 and was in quarantine in Scotland with his wife Camilla, who returned a negative result. Meanwhile, the Queen and Prince Philip have relocated to Windsor Castle in a bid to stay safe and healthy. But now it seems that William wants to play a bigger role in the fight against the virus, by returning to his former job.

According to The Sun, the father-of-three revealed privately that he misses working in the cockpit and is eager to return to the frontline role. The conversation apparently occurred during the royal’s recent visit to the NHS call centre, the publication reports. A source told The Sun Prince William wants to do his bit to help the country, but it’s complicated, given he was originally grounded from the role in 2017 so that he could become a senior working royal.

“The role is even more important now given that Charles has been ill,” the source told The Sun. “Harry has walked away with Meghan and Andrew has been effectively barred from public life. But William is very keen to do anything he can to help.”

While William is yet to confirm this news publicly, he has still been doing all he can to assist those during this crisis alongside Catherine. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their three children George, Charlotte and Louis have been isolating at Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, but instead of relaxing in their pyjamas, William and Kate have been dedicating their time to check up on organisations assisting the vulnerable.

Taking to social media this past weekend, the royal family shared a couple of snaps from their home offices, while they discussed an issue that is close to their heart.

“Self-isolation and social distancing can pose huge challenges to our mental health,” the post on Instagram read. “In recent weeks the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been in regular contact with organisations and patronages to understand the issues they are facing during this difficult time.”

In one snap, Catherine could be seen sitting at a desk. She looked polished in a pink power suit; her brunette locks slightly waved. In another photo, Prince William could be seen sitting by a marble fireplace, engaged in a phone call.

The post revealed that the pair recently spoke to the CEOs of leading organisations, Mind Charity and Place to Be, which support the mental health sector. The conversations come as Public Health England released new guidance to help support people during the Covid-19 outbreak, including the update of the world-leading Every Mind Matters platform.

The duke and duchess commended the mental health sector for working together to deliver the new guidelines and said it will make a great difference to those suffering during this time.

“It is great to see the mental health sector working together with the NHS to help people keep on top of their mental wellbeing,” their Instagram post read. “By pulling together and taking simple steps each day, we can all be better prepared for the times ahead.”
