The British Royal Family’s mourning period has officially come to an end and as their hearts and the nation no doubt struggle to come to terms with the Queen’s passing, King Charles III has signalled that it is time to close this chapter in history and start a new one.
In a subtle change made by Buckingham Palace, but an impactful one nonetheless, the profile photos of the Royal Family’s official social media accounts have been replaced with ones of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla.
The change in the Royal Family’s social media profile photo is just a small modification on the list of changes that will occur in the following months since Charles’ ascension as King.
The carefully picked image shows the couple standing side-by-side staring straight ahead. The King dons a Scottish kilt and has his military medals on full display.
The photo had been taken back in May 2020, when the royal couple took a trip to Balmoral to visit the War Memorial on the 75th anniversary of VE Day.
To formally mark the end of the Royal Mourning, The Firm also released a moving statement on Twitter alongside a photo captured of the Queen in 1952 during her accession.
Although national mourning in the UK drew to a close on September 20, a day following the Queen’s state funeral, the King had requested that his family have seven more days to mourn the loss of his mother.
Shortly after the state funeral, it is understood that the King travelled to Scotland with Camilla to grieve in private during the mourning period.
According to Buckingham Palace, members of the Royal Household Staff had also honoured this week-long period of grievance.
As of Tuesday, September 27, the flags across the royal residence have once again been raised to the full mast for the first time since the Queen died, indicating that the royal family and household have recommenced official duties.
While Charles is scheduled to carry out his official royal duties in Buckingham Palace, on the other side of the country Prince William and his wife, Catherine, have made their first official trip to Wales since receiving their new royal titles.
Following the announcement of his new title as Prince of Wales, William promised Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford that he would serve the people of Wales with “humility and great respect”.
