A royal expert has revealed insights into Princess Catherine’s cancer journey and what has motivated her to keep going since she announced her diagnosis several months ago.

Vanity Fair reporter Katie Nicholl came to this understanding after watching Catherine’s emotional video in which she disclosed her cancer diagnosis and her decision to step back from public duties.

Nichol, who was speaking on an episode of the royal podcast Dynasty: The Windsors’ Most Difficult Year, said Catherine’s main focus has always been her three children, Prince George aged 11, Princess Charlotte aged nine and Prince Louis aged six.

“I think it was really all about them. It’s always been all about them,” she said.

“The way her voice broke when she spoke about her children … just made you realise that she’s a mum.”

Reflecting on the video, Nicholl noted it was the Princess’ hardest speech to date and that we saw her at her “most real”.

While the popular royal has made “good progress” with her treatment, she still has months to go with her chemotherapy and doctors have not given her the all-clear yet.

However, the Princess had made small steps back into public life, first attending the Trooping the Colour celebration on June 15 and the Men’s Singles final at Wimbledon on July 14.

Eager royal fans got their first glimpse of the beloved Princess as she rode in a covered carriage with her three children to take part in celebrations for the birthday of King Charles on Saturday, June 15.

Wearing a pale outfit decorated with a white and navy ribbon by fashion designer Jenny Packham and a broad-brimmed matching hat by milliner Philip Treacy, Catherine watched the ceremony from a window overlooking the parade ground.

She pointed out aspects of the event to her children while Charles saluted passing troops.

Taking to social media, Catherine revealed that it was “great to be back” at the prestigious tennis tournament.

“There’s nothing quite like The Championships,” she wrote alongside photos from the event.
