In what comes as a far cry from his days hosting national television, troubled former game show presenter Andrew O’Keefe has addressed a small crowd during a rehab graduation ceremony, congratulating his ‘brothers’ for their achievement.

Although O’Keefe still has two months of rehabilitation to complete he heaped praise on those who were finishing up their time while wishing them all the best, as reported by The Daily Telegraph.

‘I just want to say to every single guy who is leaving: thank you so much for what you have brought to this place,” O’Keefe said.

“Your absence will be noted by us in our hearts because every single one of you has contributed something extraordinarily special to this brotherhood.

“And it will be a very different brotherhood, no doubt a very viable brotherhood nonetheless, without you. So thank you, guys. You are beautiful men. Go well.”

Earlier this year O’Keefe was arrested and charged for the alleged assault of a woman in a Sydney apartment.

Police alleged that a man grabbed the woman by the throat, pushed her to the ground and punched her.

O’Keefe was arrested on Thursday, January 27 in relation to this incident and was later charged with two counts of ‘intentionally choking a person without consent’, three counts of ‘common assault’ and one count of ‘assault occasioning actual bodily harm’.

“A verbal argument ensued between the pair, before the man allegedly assaulted the woman — grabbing her by the throat, pushing her to the ground and punching her,” a police statement said.

“The man allegedly assaulted the woman a second time — punching and kicking her — before she left the unit.”

After 13 nights in custody in Sydney’s Silverwater Prison, O’Keefe began his fight for freedom as sources close to the former White Ribbon Foundation ambassador revealed to The Australian that they feared for his safety as he required “urgent mental health treatment”, which was not offered inside the prison.

However, Justice Robertson Wright chose to deny O’Keefe’s bail bid, citing his “long-standing substance abuse disorder” as cause to do so.

Upon hearing of his unsuccessful bail application, O’Keefe became agitated and accused the court of having “no interest in justice”.

Although it seemed like the disgraced star was facing the possibility of a long stint behind bars, O’Keefe was granted bail on Monday, May 23 under the condition he immediately attend rehabilitation.

The approval of his bail application came after he offered an apology to the court for his outburst.

“I do wish to offer an apology unreservedly,” O’Keefe said on Thursday, May 12.

“My behaviour last time was quite disrespectful to the court.

“I come from a family that has experience in the judiciary, my father was a judge, and I know how difficult the job is.”
