If you were thinking of heading to Coles this morning for some groceries, make other plans. There are reports that Coles stores are closed across Australia due to a tech glitch that’s affecting the stores’ cash registers.

While Coles’ own social media pages make no mention of the closures – the supermarket’s own Twitter page doesn’t appear to have been active since May, despite claiming that it’s staffed from Monday to Friday 9am-5pm –  Twitter has reports from customers that their local store is unexpectedly shut.

Meanwhile, media outlets ranging from Channel 7 to the Sydney Morning Herald report that stores in Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast are impacted, while the ABC in Brisbane says it’s a nationwide issue.

Starts at 60 has contacted Coles’ owner Wesfarmers for comment.

Have you been to Coles today? Was your local store affected?
