Barry Du Bois has revealed he’s back in hospital to undergo more cancer treatment and has shared a moving message to thank the nurses taking care of him.
The Living Room host, 57, was first diagnosed with plasmacytoma, cancer of the immune system, in 2010 and the TV star underwent successful treatment.
However, following a six month period in remission, the Network Ten star revealed that his cancer had sadly returned during an emotional episode of The Living Room in October last year. Barry told viewers that he had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, which is cancer of the plasma cells, and had several tumours.
He recently underwent treatment including chemotherapy, but has since recovered enough to return to the show. However, as he’s confirmed his cancer isn’t completely curable, he’s now back in hospital for a new course of treatment.

Sharing a photo of him sat in a chair with a drip in his arm, Barry took the chance to thank all the medical staff who are supporting him there. One nurse joined him for the photo, and he looked happy as he flashed a smile to the camera.
“Well I am back in the drivers seat for some treatment this morning at the amazing Kinghorn Cancer center,” he wrote. “The nurses like @salnich & staff here are incredible.
“@tlrfoundation is helping nurses with a nursing scholarship specifically for those nurses who care for people being treated for blood cancers and other diseases treatable with a stem cell transplant.
“The scholarship is for Nurses studying for a Masters degree in Cancer & Haematology at the University of Sydney. The @tlrfoundation has a team running in the upcoming City2Surf so please support them if you can.”
He was inundated with support from fans, with one writing: “You’re an inspiration. Onwards and upwards,” while another added: “Take heaps of care.”

Meanwhile, another wrote: “Your fight is so important for me, I know you will win this. My prayers for you.”
Barry recently appeared alongside his co-star Amanda Keller on the Logie Awards red carpet and shared an update on his cancer fight with Starts at 60 – while urging anyone going through illness to speak openly about it.
“We know that if we talk about things and unpick them, it helps. Conversation is the most important thing we can have,” he said. “The strength and love I’ve got has given me incredible strength, and I appreciate it from everyone.”
Meanwhile, Amanda was full of praise for her co-star, and told Starts at 60: “This year is a very different year, it feels like a different year for us, and to be honest – just for us all being here, Barry looking and feeling so well, for all of us to have this.
“At the end of last year, we couldn’t have predicted if we’d all be here on the red carpet and Barry looking so great, so it does feel extra special.”
