A registered nurse has been found guilty of murdering two elderly women at a Ballina nursing home in May 2014.

Megan Haines was charged with the murders of Marie Darragh, 82, and Isabella Spencer, 77, by injecting them with a lethal dose of insulin at St Andrews Village nursing home.

The 49-year-old had previously told the New South Wales Supreme Court hearing that she couldn’t recall telling her boyfriend that fictional murderers on a TV show should have used insulin.

Haines had been told not to go into the two women’s rooms without another person present following complaints from the women.

The judge adjourned the matter for sentencing on December 7.

Marie and Isabella died the day before Mother’s Day.

Do you think there should be better measures to ensure the safety of nursing home residents?
